The Mets (2-5), unfortunately find themselves in familiar territory so far this year: last in the NL East. Last year was a baseball betting aberration, or so the Met’s faithful hoped. After being absolutely depleted by injuries it was no wonder that the team finished near the bottom of the NL betting competition. But this MLB betting season was supposed to be different.

With a healthy roster, ace Johan Santana finally in good form and host of free agent bats meant to bolster the team’s meager run production in the 2010 MLB odds action, this was going to be the year the team got back into MLB playoff betting contention. But it hasn’t happened yet and the team’s baseball postseason betting hopes won’t get any help facing a dominating Cardinal staff and stacked lineup.

The Cards (5-2) starting pitching has been among the best in the NL betting action so far this year. Ace Adam Wainright has been all but unhittable (2-0, 1.20 ERA, 13 Ks) and his fellow starters haven’t been bad either. But the Card’s have the luxury of having an off night as well, as Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday have been blasting opposing pitchers so far this MLB betting season (8 HRs and 20 RBIs between the two of them through 7 baseball betting games).

Depending on the pitching matchups the Cards will win at least 2 of the 3 games in this MLB odds series and could even sweep.

The St. Louis Cardinals (5-2) have been dominating opponents so far in the young 2010 MLB betting season. The team started the year with a 4-2 road record before opening up the baseball betting action at Busch Stadium.

The New York Mets (2-5) have done just the opposite of the Red Birds in the 2010 betting odds action. This team has been a bit of a disappointment after stocking up on free agent bats in the baseball betting off season and getting its pitching staff more or less healthy. When the team heads to St Louis it will definitely have its work cut out for it and no baseball odds maker is going to give the team much of a chance in the game. Unless ace Johan Santana is pitching.

The Cards just might have their ace, Adam Wainright, on the mound which would turn this MLB odds matchup into a pitching duel between two of the best in the NL. Regardless of the teams’ records, that pitching matchup would make this a very interesting baseball betting proposition.

Still, the Cards offense is far superior to the Mets and it would take a near perfect performance by Santana to win this MLB betting matchup.

But with plenty of time to rest and get healthy again the Mets are looking to reverse their fortunes in the 2010 baseball betting season and once again compete for the MLB wagering post season.

After finishing a hugely disappointing 2009 in last place in the NL East betting standings and winding up the season 23 games out (70-92) the Mets are ready to give the Phillies a run for the money.

The 2010 Mets are much different team than the one that limped to finish line of the 2010 baseball betting season and barring any major injuries and other forms of outrageous bad luck this is a team that should not only compete for the NL East baseball wagering title but one that many MLB odds makers could compete for a spot in the World Series odds competition.

On the mound this team has a solid –if oft injured- starting rotation led by ace Johan Santana, one of the best pitchers in the MLB wagering action. His 13 wins in 2009 led the team, but with even a hint of run support this guy is capable of 20 wins seasons every year. The team also has an above average closer in Francisco Rodriguez who will look to improve on his 36 save total in the ’09 sports betting season.

The teams’ biggest weakness in the MLB odds competition last year was at the plate. When your leading power hitter finishes the MLB betting season with just 12 HRs you know you got major issues. But the Mets addressed this in the off season brining in sluggers Jason Bay and Jeff Francouer.

With a little bit of good luck the Mets could return to the top of the baseball betting competition this year and finally give the CitiField fans something to cheer about.

But the most recent failures of the Mets in the baseball betting standings might be the toughest of all to swallow. The team’s 70 wins in the MLB odds was a joke. They were blown out of the water in their own division by teams like the Florida Marlins, a team that pays its players with beads and trinkets. But perhaps the biggest blow last season for this team was the fact that it spent over half a billion dollars for a new stadium, meant to compete with the New York Yankees new facility, and the team fell flat on its face.

Granted injuries practically derailed the team last season but when some guy named Daniel Murphy is your top HR hitter with 12, major changes are needed.

And not only did the Yankees new stadium (not coincidently scheduled to open the same year as the Mets new baseball betting stadium) outshine the new home of the Mets, but the team also won the World Series MLB odds championship.

As for the Mets, a 70-92 season was hardly what the team and its fans had in mind. But it was typical of what has happened to this team over the past 5-10 years. It’s hard to make a case for any team being more pathetic in baseball betting over that time span than the Mets. Sure there are other teams that are terrible like the Pirates or the Royals, but those teams are expected to awful because neither spends any money to improve their baseball betting rosters and both play in two of the smallest markets in MLB odds.

But the Mets, in contrast play in the largest market in baseball betting and further, spend as much or more than almost any other team in the MLB odds. Yet they rarely make the playoffs and seem to find new and inventive ways to miss the post season every year. The best that can be said of the 2009 Mets is that at least they didn’t blow a huge lead in the standings in the last month of the season as they generally do.

The team was simply terrible from day one and never came close to contending. With virtually the same roster as last season the injury riddled pitching staff and powerless line-up will likely yield very similar results in 2010.
